CongratulationS to Coach Webb, his staff and players for winning the 2025 6A State Baseball Championship. The Aztecs beat Casteel (2 time state Champion) by the score of 10-0 This is the program’s 3rd State Title. This is Coach Webb’s second State Championship since becoming head baseball coach in 2006. The 2025 Team finished the season with a 27 win -6 losses.

Coach Webb just completed his 20th year (2006-present) as head coach of the Corona del Sol Aztec baseball. His teams have had excellent season records.

The 2009 Team brought home Corona del Sol’s second STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in baseball by beating Hamilton 11-1 in the state finals. The 2019 Team brought home the 6A Runner-Up title.

The 2025 Aztecs started off the season by hosting their Annual Boris Arizona Classical High School Tournament at Corona del Sol and had a record of 3 wins and only 1 loss. They then traveled to Carey, North Carolina for the USA Baseball National High School Invitational Tournament against some of the finest teams in the country. They came home with a very respectful record of 2 wins and 2 losses and stayed up with their opponents in every game, they beat Granada HS (CA) and Poly Prep Country Day (NY), but lost to Venice HS (FL) and Columbus HS (FL).

The Aztecs won their Regional Title this year with 7 wins and 1 loss. They received the number #1 seed going into the Arizona State Baseball Tournament Championships.

In the State Tournament, the Aztecs beat Sunnyside 2-1 in the first round, then beat Sandra Day O’Connor 10-0 in the second round of the play-offs. In the third round the Aztec’s lost to Red Mountain 0-2 and had to come back a beat Sandra Day O’Connor again. If they Aztecs planned on continuing in the State Tournament they had to beat Sandra Day They beat Sandra Day 13-5 in the Loser’s bracket The Aztecs now had to come back and beat Red Mountain twice. The Aztecs did win twice by the scores of 3-1 and 9-1.

The Aztecs were now in the Championship game and had to faced Casteel HS in the finals (the 2 time defending State Champions). Casteel had the beaten the Aztecs in the first game of the season. But this time the Aztecs could not be stopped. They beat Casteel by the score of 10-0 and became the 2025 6A State Champions.

Coach Webb has a rich background in baseball, having played at Phoenix Camelback High School for three years (1989-1991). He played for his father, Charlie Webb. Dave went on to play at Scottsdale Community College. He finished his degree at Grand Canyon University (1996). Dave also received his master’s degree from Arizona State University (2003).

Coach Webb teaches World History/Geography and World Geography. He is considered an excellent teacher in the classroom and on the baseball field. He will continue the baseball “TRADITION” at CDS.
